CHLAMYDIA

What is Chlamydia?

Chlamydia is a bacterial infection spread during vaginal, anal, or oral sex with someone who has chlamydia. It can occur on the genitals or in the throat. Chlamydia has a cure and is generally treated with antibiotics.

Chlamydia Symptoms

Chlamydia doesn't usually cause any symptoms, so you may not realize that you have it. People with chlamydia who have no symptoms can still pass the disease to others. If you do have symptoms, they may not appear until several weeks after you have sex with an infected partner. Symptoms occur 7-28 days after having sex.

When symptoms do appear, they can include:

  • Pain or burning when peeing

  • Abnormal discharge from the vagina or penis

  • Pain, bleeding, or discharge from the rectum

  • Lower abdominal pain
